EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS TO CURTAIL SCHOOL DROPOUTS
Today’s school system, college, and universities are on mounting pressure. There are constant talks going on about student persistence and student success. Regardless of the type of school and the course they offer, there are many reasons that trigger students dropout rates, especially amongst secondary school students.
It could just be an individual issue or a mix of them. But it’s high time to review into the reasons behind these dropouts, revise the factors for those students to have a successful education completion.
What is an Early Warning System for dropout prevention? In short, an EWS is a system that enables schools and education authorities to identify students with specific needs and support them in a timely and appropriate way. Given these benefits, it is not surprising that the prevention of dropout has become a priority for most governments across the world.
The Europe 2020 Strategy, for example, aims to reduce the share of early leavers from education and training to less than 10 percent.
The prevention of dropout and early school leaving is also seen as a key strategy to support adolescents and youth and maximise their chances of making a good transition from education into the workplace..
