AI in Biodiversity
: Certification in Biodiversity Analytics introduced to advance knowledge in this area
Singapore, 12 October 2022 – The Centre for AI Innovation (CEAI) along with its venture partner AIV50 and social impact start-up, Sofinaa, is pleased to announce an exciting initiative in collaboration with an African initiative, led by Mr Paulo Gomes, backed by the Africa Wildlife Foundation (AWF), on biodiversity and climate change for the African continent.
Many scientists globally have highlighted that biodiversity is being lost at an alarming rate. Forward-thinking companies are taking notice and are working to address species loss in their ESG strategies. To do that requires visibility over the impact of the organization’s operations and particularly, their value chain.
An estimated US$44 trillion of economic value generation – more than half the world’s GDP – is considered moderately or highly dependent on nature and its services.
To address this, the Group is developing a new AI-powered scorecard called Biodiversity Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting (BMER) system to help understand the risks to organization’s operations from further biodiversity loss.
BMER Phase II development is also being planned for policy makers and forest park rangers to improve research on migration, human-wildlife conflict, relocation and re-introduction of species, and predator-prey interactions. BMER helps to strategically assess biodiversity hotspots where human interference should be limited.
AIV50 will be seeding the initial efforts in the form of sponsoring certification programmes in biodiversity analytics to empower the relevant stakeholders in Africa on AI and Big Data Analytics without the need for coding and programming.
