Employers and Educators Urged to Forge Stronger Relationships to Benefit the Education and Business Sectors
Collaboration for Success - Bridging the Gap Between Education and Industry
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 25 March 2023 – According to recent research report written by the CEAI Research team based on the Future of Education seminar, the collaboration between employers and educators is more critical than ever before. The research team found that the rapidly changing job market requires young people to have a unique set of skills that they may not learn in traditional academic settings.
The report emphasized the importance of bridging the skills gap between what is taught in the classroom and what is required in the workplace. By engaging with educators, employers can identify the skills and knowledge that are required in the workplace, and educators can tailor their curricula to meet those needs.
The research team also emphasized the need for educators to provide insights into the latest trends in the job market and the skills that are in demand. This information can help students make informed choices about their careers and choose courses that will prepare them for the job market.
Additionally, the report highlighted the importance of promoting work-based learning programs, such as internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing. These programs provide students with valuable experience and skills that can help them succeed in the workplace. Employers can provide opportunities for work-based learning, while educators can provide support and guidance to students during these experiences.
Collaboration between employers and educators can help build relationships and networks that can benefit both parties. Employers can identify potential employees, while educators can provide referrals to employers. These relationships can also lead to research collaborations and partnerships that can benefit both the education and business sectors.
“The future workforce will need to have a different set of skills, and we need to prepare our youths to meet those demands. This requires close collaboration between employers and educators to ensure that our young people have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the workforce,” according to CEAI (Malaysia) Chairman, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar.
“Work-based learning programs are an essential component of preparing our youths for the job market. Employers need to provide these opportunities, and educators need to support and guide students during these experiences. Collaboration between employers and educators is key to building strong relationships and networks that benefit both parties. These relationships can also lead to research collaborations and partnerships that benefit the education and business sectors,” he added.
Tan Sri concludes by saying: “By bridging the skills gap and providing insights into the latest trends in the job market, employers and educators can ensure that our young people are prepared for the challenges of the future.”
